The municipality of Ricadi stretches out along the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria and includes famous Capo Vaticano with its impressive steep coast.
At Capo Vaticano, the turquoise blue sea makes its way between the ragged granite rocks to form a large number of small bays, the beaches appear to be snow-white and, as certified by the Italian environmental organization Legambiente, the waters of the sea are of best quality.
Ricadi is an Italian municipality in the province of Vibo Valentia. Especially its coastal districts, for example Santa Maria di Ricadi, Santa Domenico di Ricadi and San Nicolò di Ricadi, are becoming increasingly popular.
Famous Capo Vaticano is also part of the municipality of Ricadi.
Fortunately, and not least because of the steep cliffs, the cape itself has remained unspoilt; some of the most beautiful bays, for example Praia di Fuoco, can only be reached on foot or by boat.
On the cape, and with the Stretto di Messina, Sicily and the Lipari Islands including volcanic Mt. Stromboli in sight, there used to be, in ancient times and in place of today’s lighthouse, an oracle much frequented by sailors, which explains the original name Capo dei Vaticinii, cape of prophecies.
The gentle slopes of Monte Poro can also be explored by bike along low-traffic roads. Dive into a rural world, where time still passes more slowly.
